Anto's Audax (a new bike for jags)
« on: November 04, 2016, 03:42:30 pm »
Well lads my new baby just arrived .Thorn Audax 853 Mtt black.
wonder is there a record time on unpacking a thorn  box i reckon i will hold the record ;D ;D

First impression  man i love it the paintwork is more satin than matt.
i got the workshop prep done as  well worth the extra few bob, they even coppered greased the bottom bracket shell i'm impressed .

i'm not going to compare it with my Dolan i reckon that would be unfair  obviously the Thorn is much heavier but man is it well made  i can't wait to get it built up and hit the roads of louth and meath  maybe even take her up north  on a tour happy days.
my good wife just said if u ask me for any more money for that bike i'll feckin deck u. Women huh :'(

anyway lads that's  latest buzz from Anto, just want to end by saying thanks Dan for all your help in choosing a bike that's going to work for me  (light fast touring) well maybe not fast  ::) if ever they was a gentle man  Dan your a brick.
also cheers SJS cycles  fantastic bike fantastic service and if yis ever want to give anto a groupset on the never never  ;)

cheers
Anto.
(excited as a big kid)

Anto,

It'll weigh less as soon as you trim the excess length from the steerer.  ;)

All the best,

Dan.

Looks good jags.
Hope you didn't get any of that copper grease from the bottom bracket on your sofa?!

Pretty cool, Anto -- or as an e-friend would say, "Class!"   ;)

Enjoy -- and we'll look forward to the photos & stories of the finished product.

Cheers,  John

Anto, Graham Smith in Australia (he posts here now & then as "Vintage tourer") has written a review of his Audax.  He reckons it's a superb bike, a fast light tourer.  Here's the link to Graham's review on crazyguy:  https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/reviews/board/message/?o=tS&thread_id=610130&page=1&nested=0&v=H#610130

Just be warned that the bike is BRIGHT red  ;)

Thanks John another satisfied customer by the sound of things,
well specked bike for sure red is not  for me but each to there own.
i have mine all packed away until i get some parts for it ,

i'm almost certain i'm going with Tiagra 10 speed    shimano  is top notch hard to beat it for price and quality.

Congrats once again jags! Looking forward to seeing the build progress.

I don't think I have ever seen a steerer tube that long. I don't remember mine being that long on the Nomad frame when I got it. I'll check my pics in the morning.

Cheers!

Cheers Sam  yeah it's pretty long right enough  should be a LB lighter when i  cut it to size.

the build is going to be mega slow i'm afraid .unless i get a few weeks work.
still as Dan said to me get the frame and worry about parts later clever boy that Dan  ;)

Oh, what have I done...?  :D

Here is an out-there thought, Anto:

Strip the parts off your Dolan and swap them to the Audax for the duration of winter while you're waiting. This way, you could use the Audax as your "rain bike" (mudguards) and then even swap things back to the carbon bike come Spring if the parts have not come through in the meantime.

It would get the Audax on the road most quickly.

All the best,

Dan.
