How often to adjust the eccentric BB

<< < (2/2)

JohnR:
My mental guide is that 10N is approximately 1kg so 15Nm is a 6kg force on the end of a 25cm spanner. As PH says, that's a significant push without indulging in arm wrestling.

Perhaps consider fitting a Hebie Chainglider as the protection it provides substantially reduces the chain wear.

mickeg:
If your eccentric uses the same bolts as on my Nomad Mk II, a 15mm spanner will do the job better than a screwdriver, as the screwdriver slots in the bolts are small.

About a half year ago I described in detail the procedure I go through to adjust it, the link to that is at:

The tool with two bolts that go into the two holes in the eccentric is the best way to easily adjust the eccentric, but if you lack that, even a long nose pliers would probably work instead, as it should be quite easy to adjust it after the pinch bolts are loosened.

When you are new to doing this task, it is more likely that you will err on the side of tightening the chain too much instead of not tight enough.   Sometimes the chainring is not concentric with the bottom bracket spindle or there may be other reasons that when you turn the crank, that the chain might be tighter at part of the stroke.  Slightly too loose instead of slightly too tight is preferred.

Pavel:
Never in 12 years.  One advantage of Rohloff is the straight chain line where a crazy loose chain still stays on.   I ride until the chain is loose enough to take off the sprockets by hand, and then simply replace it.
