Rather like brown shoes and a dark suit, a honey brooks can work really well with lots of unexpected colour combinations, as in this case. Lovely looking bike.

meant to say a much safer place for that cadence sensor is on the seatube  just under bottle cage.

Unfortunately the sensor only has a range of about 1 cm from the magnet otherwise it would be perfect. :)

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul
Cracking bike, enjoy every pedal stroke. I like the ortlieb mudracer and wish I had kept mine when I sold my sherpa.

Jags, you know it is looking like it works. I have called in the aide of a surplus 5mm neoprene SCUBA diving hood, a pare of scissors & some zip ties ... & it's blinking green .. on & off, looks like one more layer of rubber!. Thanks chap for the lateral thinking.  8).

Is that a Garmin 64?

Hi Matt,

Yep the GPS is a Garmin gpsmap 64s. I like it because it will take its fare share of knocks has a slightly bigger screen than the etrex.
I tend to power it with the e-werk cash battery but can usually get two days cycling out of a set of rechargeable AA batteries.

Cheers,

Paul.

Yes - screen size is important.
I went for the etrex20x and it's just about Ok for my eye sight.
I felt the extra size of the 64 went against it - for my own personal use - but I very much liked what it can do.
I've yet to use it on tour but enjoy Geocashing with it and seeing the stats it pours out for rides.

Christened Him today by changing my big monthly supermarket shop to click & collect.

Then took a deliberate hilly detour on the way home.

Boy don't these things just handle like a dream with a load on!!

Happy Happy Burney.  ;D ;D ;D

Cheers Paul.

Yes! Yes, they surely do!

A Nomad is really in its element with a full load aboard.

Best,

Dan.

A Nomad and a Mercury! I'm jealous. I have a yellow Nomad like yours, and if I got a second bike, it would probably be a Mercury. Congratulations on two fine bikes.

Not got the foggiest what to call it but something will occur.

Something with "blue" in the name. :) The colour of that frame is electric, especially in the second photo.

Paul.

Lovely bikes. Re 550L Mercury: How tall are you? I'm doing a little homework re Mercury sizing.
Thanks

I purchased a 550L Mercury in 2015. My height is 1750mm with a BFSO of 850mm. I test rode the 550L and the 580L. In my case the 550L was the correct size as recommended by Andy B. The stand over height on the 580L was just a bit to tight for comfort. The 550L frame gave an exposed seatpost length of 185mm which, with the carbon seatpost fitted, gives a very comfortable ride.

Question.  Why rim on the front and disc on the rear ?
Just wondering as the front is the more effective brake.
Like the colour !

Hi Paul,

Great Nomad, congratulation   :)

Did you bought New ?

What's your plan with it ?

Hi Julio,

Yes Thomas was new from Thorn to my spec.

I have an affinity with the wilderness, because my work is people intensive.

He went to India in February (which is not), now that Doli has arrived I have to be a reasonably good boy this year.

He is going cycle camping for 2 weeks along LF 1 from Calais to Helmskerk in August.

July & August 2018 Iceland, which is the primary reason for buying him, because I want to get into the inertia because by all accounts its stunning.

Yup.  I was there mid June to mid July this past summer.  More at this link.

But every year they get something like 30 to 40 percent more tourists than the previous year, so hurry.

Ok fine Paul !

What do you mean " along LF 1" ?

You went to India with the Nomad  ? Which places have you been ?

Lf 1 is (excuse the pun) one of the Long Distance waymarked European cycle routs. It forms part of the longer 'North Sea Cycle Rout'.

See.

and

India was the southern end South Kerala & Tamil Nadu provinces, but by no means all of either.

Once I get my act together, I will put up a new thread in the Cycle Tours section
