New anti-scratch Ortlieb mounting system on the way

Hi All!

Ortlieb are introducing a new pannier mounting system that reduces or prevents scratching of the racks. It appears to be an improvement over the current glass-filled nylon pieces, which can cause considerable rack abrasion over time. I look the Ortlieb QL3 mounting system http://youtu.be/-whf3DMpV5A and Specialized have had some Tubus Rack's custom made with the mounting points welded onto/part of the Tubus rack!

Thanks, but the sad part is that only 100 set's have been made for the world  so far!

Designed to fit my new Adventure (light touring) Bike.
I still have my "Tom" but a Nomad is to slow for longer day rides and I'm trying to get fit again, The new bike is fast on the road and offroad.

I hear you loud and clear! My Nomad is great for what it is designed for, but I am finding it very slow on my training rides too and would love something sportier, nippier, faster. It would be nice to be able to keep up with the road guys, even for five minutes, when they overtake me on the flat roads when I'm out training. Instead they fly by and in two minutes that are out of sight!  Did I open up a can of worms buying my first new bike in 25 years back in Dec 2013 - I am starting to think I may have. I have been ''researching'' suitable bikes as my "second" bike for a week or two now. Back 25 years ago I had seven bikes at home, so I have been there before!
On another subject I took your advice and got myself a new Specialized saddle a couple of days ago with the 90 trial and have unceremoniously ditched my Brooks *

Yes I had planned to have only one Bike after my Africa ride with buying Tom but have remove the forks and got the STD Nomad Forks back on, and Got a Carbon Fully MTB (Holly).

Plus a Cargo Bike (BD)too, But would how sale it and fit Box's to the side's of my rear Carrier on Tom. A Road Bike (R&W), and how the Fun new Bike TDA (named TDA as this would be the best Bike to ride in Africa with Tour d'Afrique)

First, rats...just got a whole new set or Ortliebs without the new mounting system!

Second, am in the same boat w regards to bikes. My current bike is built specifically for touring as in going from Singapore to Paris. Tough as a tank but rides like a tank too. So, am considering something a bit faster.

I have the new mounting system on my Office Bag with the QL3 mount. It is very nice and leaves a bag with a flatter surface, great for an Office Bag. However for touring and general riding I see some limitations.

The mounting spiggots will be welded to the rack at specific points, and this prevents the versatility of the previous hook-mounts of being able to position the bag in the best position, for heel-clearance and for load placement. There will be just one set position, which may be unsuitable for your shoes and/or your frame.

Second problem is related to the type-tour of bag in use. I often use my front panniers on the rear rack for daytours. These have a narrower rail and closer-spaced hooks. If you had the QL3 system the mounts would need to be identically-spaced on front and rear panniers to enable this versatility.
