Boston.com have assembled some remarkable photographs of bicycles in use around the world in a photo essay titled, "Pedal Power - The Big Picture", here:

In most photos, the bike is performing some essential, valuable, or valued service and it would be hard to imagine another vehicle having quite the same impact in these thematic photos. The photos are all of a very high technical standard and each tells a story -- with or without the included caption.
