Illustrated essay on how our simple machines work
« on: April 08, 2023, 09:54:03 pm »
Recently, a friend sent me the link below, with this cover note: "I doubt that you really need a 15,000 word illustrated essay on how bicycles work, but I pass it along in case."

Bicycle, by Bartosz Ciechanowski may be is probably more than most of us will ever want to read about why our "simple machines" perform as they do, but I found his combination of text and illustrations to be remarkable. That said, I tried to read it  at one sitting, and by the time I reached the section on "Trail", my concentration had gone walkabout.

Here you go, in any case: https://ciechanow.ski/bicycle/

I'd be interested to hear how the engineers among us rate it.

Bicycles are simple...the science behind them is astoundingly complex.

Best, Dan.
