Best Christmas Present (2011 Edition)
« on: December 26, 2011, 08:33:12 am »
Hi All,

I enjoy touring desert regions where alkali renders many of the local water sources undrinkable.  That means I often carry a lot; 6.5 liters on the frame, another 6 liters in a 10 liter bladder atop the back rack.

Water is heavy.  Full-up, I'm carrying 16.5kg of the wet stuff.

Well, no more worries, thanks to a friend who gifted me the best Christmas present I've ever received.

I'll just carry a few tins -- better yet, a case -- of the stuff pictured below.

Life...is good, Christmas...Merry!  Hope yours was, too!

Best,

Dan.

Nutritional information (and possibly a means to order by the can or case) are available at:

http://www.bernardfoods.com/foodservice/beverages/dehydatedwater.htm

I see they are listed under production code 43658 for a case (12-8oz cans) in the Aqueous flavor, yielding 3 gallons per case, which is about right for adventure touring.  On my digital scale, a single can weighs 3oz/85gm.  Those really concerned with weight may wish to wait for the foil pouch version, but this isn't too bad for now.  The can will ensure lasting freshness till it is opened, and I can easily fit a case-worth of cans in a single Ortlieb.

This, with helium filling my Schwalbes, should make this year's tours much easier.

I do want those anti-grav panniers, so if you know of a supplier....    ;D

Best,

Dan.

...yeah.   ::)

To be honest, for a second...when I opened the gift of the "dehydrated water" I nearly hyperventilated with joy.  ;D  It all looked so...real.  "It couldn't possibly....".   :-[

No, sadly, it could not.   :D

Still, such a fun gift I had to share.   :D

All the best,

Dan.

...on the other hand, I've yet to open the can (didn't want to waste it), so it still could be real...

It's light enough to be the Real Thing.

Best,

Dan.
