help me with my front mech gear change
« on: June 20, 2005, 03:23:26 pm »
I am having trouble changing into my smallest chain ring on the chainset. Sometimes it misses the small ring and lands on the bottom bracket housing. Annoying!

The travel on the front mech is aligned properly. I am  shifting from a 38t middle to a 26t small ring. Do you think the jump is too big?

The middle ring is Campag mirage and the small ring is specialized I think. Can this affect the change? Ideas appreciated!

This phenomenon is known as "chain suck"!

In my experience it most often happens with non matching rings as you describe.

What i have done in the past to cure this, is to change the rotational position of the small chainring. Try laying the chain across from the middle to small ring as it would mesh in use, changing the position accordingly.

A 12 tooth drop is perfectly ok.
