Suspension forks on short-frame Raven Tour - why not ?
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:10:19 pm »
Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and not yet a Thorn owner, but looking to become a Raven Tour owner in the near future.

Given the expected considerable outlay, it would be nice to have a versatile frame that would allow me to switch between straight bars and drops, and also between rigid forks and suspension forks, as and when necessary.

Now, drops fit best on a short Raven Tour frame, but reading through the forum threads I have come across a few references that say that short frames are incompatible with suspension forks, but I can't find a good explanation why that is.

So, my question is, what exactly makes short frames incompatible with suspension forks?

Is it that this changes the bike to a dangerously unstable geometry?

Or is it something more basic like suspension forks have less trail, which moves the wheel back, so on a short frame you end up kicking the front wheel if you pedal when turning corners?

Can someone enlighten me, please?

Thanks in advance,

Kev.
