Audax Mk3 for touring
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:20:01 pm »
Hi everyone!

I've been seriously considering getting the Audax Mark 3 to replace my old bike, using it mainly for commuting to uni as well as day and weekend trips round the UK. However, I'd also like to tour occasionally with a tent or hammock (within Europe at first - nowhere too far) so I was interested if anyone had done some touring with this bike?

I know it has a low weight tolerance of 15kg, but I figured as I only weigh a small amount myself (55kg) I could get quite a lot out of a fast bike with lightweight minimal kit for touring, as I'd be able to have more time to stop at interesting places without hurting the distance I need to get, or do small side trips on the way should I feel like it. Not to mention the advantage up hills!

If anyone has some experience to share about this bike being used for lightweight touring like this (hammock tents, backpacker kit etc) I'd really appreciate hearing how it went, as well as any suggestions or shouts of "You're Mad!"

Thanks,

Nic
