Polishing your bike ...
« on: May 13, 2004, 01:06:35 am »
Does anyone else polish their bike after they clean it??? or am I just being too fussy?

I clean my bike after each dirty ride, or every couple of months if it needs it, and then about once every 3-4 months I give the bike frame a polish with some car polish, after removing things like bottle cages and the like.

Must say, my Nomad looks quite neat after a good clean and polish!

cheers,
hoogie

I think of that as a "new bike" thing. Mine's 20 years old now, and I clean and polish it occasionally. When it was new, I'd disassemble it down to individual bearings at least once a month.

Either that, or I'm just getting old...

I don't think you're being too fussy!
Those intervals seem reasonable to me,especially as it can be quite satisfying to keep your bike looking good![:p]

Also helps it keep its value![;)]

Hey,

When i polish my bike i just use some of that Car Wax polish, brings up a nice shine, But be carefull of the transfers!![:D]

If you really want to go to extra lengths then get some of the tyre black also, spray it onto a cloth and rub it onto tyres etc for a beutifull shine!! Car wax also puts on an invisible coat onto the paint, to help repel mud and water.

  (I work as a car valetor!! [:D])

  Cheers, Dan

Are you guys suggesting I should change my habit of only cleaning and oiling the moving parts?  My bike would change colour if I cleaned the frame.
