Bike Sheds
« on: March 22, 2022, 01:02:53 pm »
My garage is about to be converted into a studio wotnot. I can see where it will be able to accommodate the bikes I have, but there's two I might have to accommodate outside. I plan to have these living in a cycle shed. I've looked and seen advertised cycle sheds, but when I ask to go visit them in situ, all sellers say they just sell their stuff online. I dont want to buy rubbish. I am just enquiring if anyone can give me any recommendations for something I can visit, then buy. I dont think I could build my own.

Would something like this be sufficient https://www.amazon.co.uk/Keter-218396-Woodland-Ultra-Shed/dp/B00LE6FML6 (maximum internal dimension 164cm)? Open the doors and put the bikes in sideways which would be slightly less convenient than a walk-in shed with a bike on each side for which this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Keter-Manor-Shed-6-5-feet/dp/B00KREJJ4W would be the minimum size. You have to assemble from a flat pack but it's easier than a flat pack wooden shed and more durable. There are several other similar products and suppliers.

Thanks John R. I think I am going to look see if I can get something like an Asguard shed. Its some steel thing. Looks substantial. I think I am going to have to get someone in to assemble it. First things first tho,I would like to see and inspect it. I think it was this company that were 'indifferent' to my query to go somewhere to see and inspect it. It appears most people just buy this stuff without inspection or sight, then,if their unsatisfied, just send it back. It's not my style of shopping. I think I am falling behind the times: it appears any number of people spend little or large amounts of money on goods then return them if they dont suit. Well,I guess they do. Or maybe just put up with what theyre sent,or rubbish them. Not for the first time I can say,I dont understand it all.

I guess I am wrong, but many folk seem to buy bikes just on-line. I cant see it for me. Suits some folk I guess

If Bradford is not too far away then you might be able to arrange a visit to the factory. Contact one of the ladies featured here https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/contact-us/ . They've also got an indicative assembly video https://youtu.be/k-DR_pjjHYs and several reviews https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/bike-storage-x3-police-approved . Those sheds are close to bomb-proof and I don't think they will be difficult to assemble although a second pair of hands would be useful. I've built wooden and plastic sheds but not metal ones.

I'm one of those people who buys both bikes and sheds |(and a lot else) on-line. I study the specifications and photos, read any reviews and compare them with my requirements (which should be written down before starting the research). While it's useful to see things in the flesh, I find that a desk study facilitates a better thought process and seeing something is a final and optional step.

Hi

We have 2 Asgard sheds. One is the small motorbike type and stores my tractor mower, https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/motorcycle-garage.

The second one is is the access e bike storage box https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/access-e-plus. We store 2  electric mountain bikes  and my Mercury in it  The bike storage box I put up myself. But the motorcycle one I suggest you get them to install or you will need  help.

They are excellent and very safe, order to delivery is about 8 to 12 weeks.
Hope that help

Ravi

Thank you Rgill. That helps. My story is too long to tell, suffice to say I am not doing the mileages I once did but have some reluctance to get rid of some of the bikes I own. I am hoping to reduce my limited stable of bikes by one(at the mo)but am converting a garage into a studio-flat but am finding space for bike storeage difficult. I looked at Asguard and thought they looked ok,but I wanted to go look to see their quality and build...but which...wasnt easy. John R is probably a better informed man than myself and goes in for specifications and buys on-line. I'm either or both too lazy or inept to do so cos if ever I get an anwer from the seller that answer can raise another, and nothing translates as to seeing and feeling stuff for myself.

I feel one of their sheds just might be the thing for two of my bikes. First things first tho,I am having to get in someone to lay the foundations of the shed. I know many who have knowledge of this 'simple' procedure, but I dont have the know-how or physical ability to do the job. I'll buy in the skill set.

This getting older lark is more complicated than what it first appears. There's not much fun in it,but little I can do about it all. Still, better than some...and still cycling...even tho the miles are lessening. Hoping to cycle in Spain soon. Probably my last overseas tour. Maybe...

Hi tyreon,

I have a Trimetals bike shed which I have been using for about 15 years; I can squeeze three bikes in it. It arrived flat-packed and required some assembly, the top section is quite heavy and required 2 sets of hands to install.

The only downside is that on rare occasions torrential Scottish rain can cause some water ingress, but no apparent effect on my steel bikes. The shed itself has no signs of any deterioration.

Hope this helps.
