Rohloff history
« on: September 21, 2007, 02:38:12 am »
I was thumbing through a 1990 issue of Bicycling magazine just now and came across an interesting factoid. As Campagnolo  was trying to catch up to Shimano's index shifting, "Campagnolo is taking more control over chain and freewheel production. Last year, the company purchased Rohloff, a German chain manufacturer..." Apparently the move was effective: "Campy has achieved its best index shifting yet with the 8-speed hub, Rohloff chain, new Synchro shifters, and redesigned, slant parallelogram C-Record derailleur."

I assume it's the same Rohloff... is the company independent once again, or is the Speedhub a Campagnolo in disguise?

Certainly the Rohloff freewheel is loud enough to be a campag design...
