Beautiful. What's the colour finish on that one John I hope you don't mind me ask? Is it powder coated and have an applicable RAL number? Looks like a wonderful metallic pink. Much appreciated for sharing and thanks.

Kyle,
Itís a metallic finish called Magenta. Today Iíve only fitted a headset and spacers plus stem.
Iíll do more next week.
Itís a non cellulose (acrylic) paint and itís fully lacquered over labels etc.

Great colour.
Where are you getting the winged wheel stickers?  Or do you have your own stash.

When you send a frame to be sprayed, what do you do to it, other than removing all components? What about threaded braze ons, head tube where you wouldnít want paint etc. Do they mask it up? Do you supply them the stickers? Do you waxoyl the insides when you get it back? Interested as Iíve never had to do this.

Hello,
Remove all components. If any are seized leave well alone.
Send to reputable CYCLE frame restoration expert (not cheap powder coat dealer).
They fit any new braze ons and remove any unwanted. I had a steerer replaced on this particular frame because the original was too short.
All removal of original paint and masking up is done by painter. All decals of any make are supplied and fitted and lacquered over.
I no longer worry about Waxoyl or similar because the only inner tube accessible is the seatpost, but if others were available I would simply squirt an oil inside.
This all cost!
Best regards,
John

Hello,
In this particular case it was supplied and fitted by the painters and lacquered over. Usually I get from H Lloyd on Ebay.

Thanks, I've bought a couple from H Lloyd, price was a shocker,  20X as much as the Audax ones and 30X the price of the local CTC ones.  I'll have to make sure they go where they won't be damaged, could only afford two and I have four bikes, so the Thorn gets one and the remaining three will have to fight for the other one.
I'm blaming you  ;)

Well, such a mean person 😂
They are very good quality and fit well plus difficulty in removing them.
Only four bikes, you need to come and have a short talk with me!
Glad you found them and you are glad you found me😎
All the best,
John

Hello,
I have completed the third Thorn Audax 853.
I hope that I have made a decent job of it.
I find it far more difficult to resize for uploading!
Best to all.

That looks great, are you keeping them all? Do they all have similar builds or are there the sorts of differences that you might prefer one over another depending on the route?
I must admit I don't see the attraction of having similar bikes, I sold one a while go just because there was too much overlap, but as they say vive la difference.

Ah!
Similar but different is my simply put response.
The blue/red and the Magenta bikes are LA built but the Red one is Kevin Sayles. I will be using the Magenta the most because I was riding it prior to the rebuild.
I like these particular frames which suit me size and feel when riding they just feel right.
I have a Mk3 frameset to build one day with itsd 853 forks plus I have a Sherpa frame which I may do next as I have wheels and parts to suit it. Most likely sell that one because I have the Raven Sport Tour.
Great that someone appreciates my work. I enjoy building.

Great build John. All the builds you do look just right and I expect ride beautifully.
Do you build your own wheels as well ?
Do you let the LBS do anything at all or is it all built from frame up?
