Max tyre width with mudguard ST 700 (4) fork

Hello all,

New to the forum. I've seen a few different max widths stated for the ST 700 (4) forks. Would 40mm width semi-slick fit with mudguards, or alternatively 38mm semi-slick? I'm thinking along the lines of Schwalbe Marathons / Panaracer Paselas.

I want to maintain a safe bike with mudguards, so I'd rather avoid a questionable fit.
