No room on handlebar for light
« on: December 18, 2003, 10:50:10 am »
When I use a barbag on my butterfly bars, there is no room to mount my front light (CatEye HL1600).

Can anyone advise whether there is either a fork crown or fork fitting that will fit the HL-1600?

Thank you.

Jeremy-

You might want to try something like this-

That's Neil Gunton's bike and he paid about 100.00 USD for that to be welded onto his low rider.

For a more economical version here is what he did on his wifes bike...

Hope this helps.  [:)]

Hi IT,

Thank you for this suggestion - in fact, I'd already come across Neil Gunton's web pages, which I think are excellent.

Unfortunately, I can't apply his solution as my front rack is a Blackburn Custom LowRider (hoopless) type.  I had thought about using a Minoura Space Grip on the fork, but am not sure whether this could be successfully fitted.

Any other ideas will be very welcome!

Best wishes,

Jeremy

Look at the NOB:

And tell us where it is available on our side of the pond .-)

A solution I’ve seen and am considering, is to get an aluminium fabricator to stiffen my bar bag and attach the lights to the front of it.

Or maybe you could buy a Topeak or Altura bar bag.   My Altura Skye has a bracket that mounts to the bottom of the bag to take a light and a mate has a Topeak bag with a similar attachment.   The bracket has proven quite secure and there is only a small amount of shake.   As the light is predominantly for being seen rather than seeing this proves very satisfactory for me.   If you try it hope it works for you too.
