Title: I'm putting a bike back together!
Post by: xtc girl on January 29, 2006, 10:59:23 am
Well, after much thought last weekend, I shall be starting putting back together an old bike frame of my Dad's.

Dad said that the frame was not worth recovering as it had a bottom bracket stuck within it, so last weekend he treid to take it out, but he found he was turning the wrong way (so, he didn't need to strip the whole bike down).

Anyway, I have got most of the parts (I got 80% of them off an bike which is too small) and I have just got to save up for some brake levers, grab-on and a stem adaptor (roll on getting paid!!).[:)]

Have you got anytips to putting a bike back together??

I shall post some pictures when I there is some progress.

If you can maintain a bike, then you are some way towards being able to rebuild one. So check out the previous thread on maintenance books. As PH says, the Park site is quite good.

Apart from that, there will be various compatibility issues, such as dropout width, chainline, seatpost diameter etc. It depends how close in specification  your donner bike frame is to the one you are building up.
