Title: Sport Tour 'chainside' crank
Post by: Frank Tompson on October 16, 2005, 04:27:26 pm
Want to transport my bike atop the car. But when I place it on the roof bars the pedal digs into the roof. So, I look to fit a folding pedal, but, in doing so, manage to strip the thread in the crank. Doh!

The replacement (chainside 5 star arm jobbie) appears to cost £69.99. Any ideas on how to fix without such a major outlay?

With thanks,

I'm afraid you will need a new crankset.  They are £69.99, but you can't expect an expensive bike to be fitted with cheap to replace parts.

Have a look on the tandem forum and search for helicoil.  There have been many posts on this and it may allow your crank to be saved.  Hope this helps.

Thanks to ianthehippo and dangermouse.

Situation resolved when Ross at Thorn found me a single crank for £24.99.

Result.
