Title: Shaft Drive
Post by: Andybg on February 10, 2013, 03:05:26 pm
I never even knew you could get it on a bike but here is one for sale.

I would imagines the efficiency loses in the system are relatively high but does look clean if somewhat strange

Looked into shaft drive about ten years ago. At that time you couldn't get anything except plastic gears. The thing was at the toy-stage of development. I walked on by. I haven't heard since that the gears were changed to metal. Note that permanent frame alterations are required to fit shaft drive. -- Andre Jute

<nods> Yes, Pete, and the other day I saw a prototype carbon crank with spiral-offset arms, latest variation on the PMP "L" 90° crank. Actually, there's several examples coming to market, including:

Sigh.

The End is surely nigh.

All the best,

Dan. (...who thinks it is more a matter of what come around goes around)
