Title: EX Shifter Box on Rohloff
Post by: singlespeed.chris on March 30, 2005, 07:33:44 pm
Hi,

I am in the market for a Rohloff Speedhub and frame to go with it. I
read your article, "Thorn: Living With A Rohloff", and have one
question.

I am looking to use disc brakes and would require the use of the EX
Shifter box on the Rohloff. In your experience, have you found any
disadvantages, however slight, in the EX Shifter Box?

It seems that extra friction would be created in shifting with this EX
box. Or perhaps it could be vulnerable to impacts considering its
location outside the frame. Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
Chris

This was one of my fears, I think that it has been stated that the EX box makes the shifts a bit heavier. I went for the Catalyst, running an Avid cable disc upfront and a v on the back (which has ample power). The direct cable entry into the rear hub looks very neat. Wheel removal is actually easier than the derailer system it replaced, and cleaner too.
