Title: front deraileur hitting chainstay ...
Post by: hoogie on January 17, 2004, 08:59:32 am
Today I noticed that the tail of the front deraileur cage is catching the top of the chainstay on my new Nomad ... it has scratched off the paint down to the metal when going into the small chainring ...
The front deraileur has been mounted correctly [3-4mm between bottom of cage and big ring teeth ...
Deraileur is a brand new bottom swing LX model
Crank is an XT, big ring is 44T

Any ideas???

cheers,
hoogie

You probably have the wrong type of front deraileur! Shimano front mechs are not the same. You'd be better off with a conventional bottom pull front mech.(Shimano have slightly differing front mechs suitable for different seat angles!) Ask one of the mechanics at SJSC to sort you out with the right one.
