Feeling lucky to buy some replacement tubes from private parties on Craigslist (American version of Gumtree) this last week. Local shops are projecting innertube shortages to continue through mid-2022 and are saving theirs for scheduled repairs, not individual sale. Prices are soaring according to reduced supply.
Best,
Dan.

My local bike shop is really struggling to meet the demand for bikes and components. I asked them to build some wheels for me and they suggested I wait until later this year due to shortages. They did not want to commit to something they could not deliver. So, I asked if they could supply a new bike. Same response. That is how I found SJS and bought a Mercury. Even then my first choice colour, black, of Rohloff was not available so I had silver. So glad that I did it looks great on my gunmetal bike. Sadly I could not support my LBS but I now have a much better bike than I would have done. Every cloud.......

I'm feeling a bit smug, having stocked up on consumables as a Brexit precaution, I can weather a few years of shortages. So much so that I probably have enough kit to outlive me, so I really ought to stop buying more.
My next major purchase might be adding an electric motor, though I'm hoping it'll be a few years away.

I've also got a stock of tyres, inner tubes and some other bits. However, I better not damage the forks on my Mercury as Thorn doesn't have a very good selection of Mercury forks in stock - I think they've also encountered the supply chain delays as has Halfords https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57508846.

When I came out of the supermarket today, I found a fellow in the process of attaching his card to my bike, with the words "I want to buy your bike" and his phone number written on the back. I explained that I need the bike since I haven't kept a car since I went green thirty years ago. "Well, what about your other bikes. You had a black and silver bike, and a silver and blue bike." That was twenty years or more ago... He isn't even a cyclist but he noticed my bikes and remembered, even though those bikes have been in the loft for umpteen years while I used just the one bike. "You can't buy anything like your bikes in Ireland."
