Title: I want my bike back!
Post by: tyreon on July 15, 2020, 08:49:14 am
I am thinking of selling my Thorn Club Tour. As I was trying to gauge what price I should ask I came across the following bike with pic. Is this LeftPoole? I always admired his stable of steeds and thought I could remember him having this bike. Looking a little closer tho I think the raised saddle might not be his fit. I believe he was selling one or a number of his steeds recently.

Clearly someone wants his gal back!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It is indeed my bike! I occasionally post adverts in various places under WANTED.
I use this photograph to show the type of bike I am looking for (or frameset). It is set exactly to my size.
The photograph was taken near Slimbridge in Gloucestershire some years ago.
Well spotted.

Procrastination. Procrastination. Procrastination!

Just like my self.

But now yer selling agin! And lots more things and stuff!

CTC via E Bay...or t'other way round,I dont know.

Me thinks you have made the right decision, tho I'm sorta backwards in putting my own foot down.

Think I would be satisfied in keeping 3 bikes(town jobbie, folder and all round touring job)

I like the idea of a camper. But what one bike would you keep Leftpoole: Brompton only? And no one other?

Happy travelling and travels. May the sun be on yer back....the Irish blessing anyways. Were all above ground and not beneath it,anyways. Best wishes

Love your writing style!
I am finally making the better decision for my life. Ignoring others and getting on with what I am able and unable to do.
I cannot ride miles and miles, I cannot get up of the floor easily if camping and it is indeed very very difficult to get into and out of a Cycle campers sized tent. I have kept buying when my mind was set and selling if things were going badly. It has lost me a great deal of money, time and my health refuses to improve.
I have only me to look after myself/shopping for food etc/ gardening/ washing everything! Plus looking after cycles.
I have already sold my Brompton, my Birdy, my Condor. Next hopefully with some sadness, the red and blue Audax 853. I hope to keep my Raven Sport (Rohloff) and another of my 2 Audax 853.
I have a Sherpa frame wheels and parts to build, plus a new Audax MK3 R  frame with 853 forks (in red) which I should possibly have most parts for a build.
These two will at some point be sold.
I will be selling my 2001 BMW 330D Sportwagen and with some luck and a tailwind may be able to scrape enough together to buy a pretty old Campervan (small if possible). At least then I would have Camping made easy (I have owned campers when younger) and a bike to ride when I am able.
I have had a long time deciding and changing my mind but I simply cannot do anymore, the things I want to.
I am 70 and age and health have hit me hard. This Pandemic has made me think more about things.
I hope that I have not rambled or left anything out.
Best regards to you and to the rest of the group.

If you want a cheap camper, you want a Boot Jump. Its become the generic term for a wooden box that lifts in and out of the boot of a Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner or similar. So you can have a normal (cheap to buy and run) car during the week and have a camper at weekends. If you search for Amdro Boot Jump you'll see the kind of thing. There are other cheaper makes or you can self build (like I've done) for around £100 all in.

Commiserations Leftpoole. Let me think I know how you are 'cause I am as near to your own predicament as yourself! Age and decreptitude are terrible stealth stalkers...they sorta creep up on you, then suddenly they're behind you. I never expected to get old,but some how I have arrived here! I guess its all better than the alternative, but I never forsaw it all happening...maybe I always was a slow learner! (I'm an arthritis sufferer)
I should sell one of my touring bikes, but am reluctant to close the door. Silly, really. I think my new cycling is going to be about the town and bush on a folder: I dont think I have it in me to get out loaded panniers and all to get out end-to-end cycling again. There's always the possibility of course....and its this that I should really put to bed.
Most recently I've taken to finding great pleasure in looking over fields and vales and stuff. You know, contemplating and ruminating things which usually I'd cycle by. Never bin a 'road man' or a competitor, just a roamer. Now I go slower. Or want to go slower. I'm not sure if this is just an excuse to go more slowly,or maybe I just am not in so much of a rush(tho the hours and days slip away more quickly!) Anyways,no use rushing on seeing nowt but clocking up those miles: not my thing.

Its such a bummer these days that even going in for a cuppa seems to be problomatic. I hate this bloody covid.

Off topic but...on rainy days I sometimes watch youngsters travelling in vans and so-on. You tube. I love to see people travelling about and wot-not. The open road. Freedom. Then a cuppa.

You will still have those days to come,I'm sure.

You keep well, and carryo on turning pedals or campers wheels.

Luv to all people and travellers on two wheels. And those in their campers

Thank you for this mention.
I know what I will get and this idea is not suited.
Best to you,

UPDATE!

I changed my mind! I now own a motorcycle. I have those two Audax 853 bikes which I restored and that is it. I have not ridden for some time.
I have Arthritis in my limbs.
The motorcycle is taking me further, more quickly (!) and in fresh air. I love it.

Pleased to hear Leftpools update. Its always nice to get out and seek new country.

I am hoping to complete a limited Spanish circular with my wife on folders when I can. Toledo,Avila,Segovia. At tortoise speed. Hostels or such. Back roads with more reflective time to break increasing speed at which Time flies.

Back here in the increasing gloom, I watch (younger)folke touring in vans and such.

This interested me. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-tyne-57527584

Where ther's life there's hope. Well, let us hope so!

Hi John
bit late to this thread but glad you got your Mbike rather than one of those ebikes  ;)
I've gone the same way myself knee's are getting worse so can't ride like i used to still have my Thorns but going to have to thin the herd at some point
what Mbike did you get yourself? i went with a bit of nostalgia and bought one like i had when a lad always regretted selling it,
like you looking into a camper van but in the mean time bought a milliard diplomat folding bed or cot as the yanks call it (well it's american and said cot on the box) hopefully it will fit in my awning until i get the van i want,
pic of my new toy, not bad for a 1973 trials bike, odometer is in km not miles
