Post by: leftpoole on April 05, 2020, 11:14:52 am
Hello all contributors and some who did not.
Whilst checking over the thread I noticed a button left bottom which stated remove. I tried it out. OOOps.
Sorry if you were enjoying it. I was too but now its gone.
Sorry again,
John
PS We could always start again?

It's hard to fit on a button, but can be done.  Looking for the one with the 2-pt font saying, "What was I thinking?"   ;)

Hi John,

You can't get rid of Ebikes that easily.

Thanks, I can quit looking for the remove button now that I learned it is worthless.

I think the remove button only appears for the user who started the topic.

How about doing so with a little game - where no one is allowed to repeat themselves (myself included of course :-[)
The last one went on and on, though there was nothing there that couldn't have been said in a single page, probably in a single post or even a single sentence.

Agreed. I gave up after page 2. It just went on and on and on and..........

So, what's the question?

my take on the last post was that it was just a rant by john about how he despises everything ebike
no point in airing it again

So, what's the question?
It's a tougher question than you might think.
Ask - Is this pedalec a pushbike? And it's quite reasonable to answer - No, it has a motor and a battery
Ask - Is this pedalec a motorbike?  And it's equally reasonable to answer - No, you have to pedal and it's restricted by law (In some countries, including UK) to a similar speed to a pushbike.

So what is it? it is what it is, but in law it's treated the same as any other bicycle.  How any individual wants to treat it is up to them, it's just none of their business to be telling others how they should.

Hello,
My original post was simply to say that I did not think cycle shops should sell so called E-bikes!
As a personal opinion even though these things would be very useful as I suffer health issues , I despise the things.
If I ever want power I will return to a motorcycle.
Possibly a motorcycle with a smaller engine and frame than I originally rode (due to weight).
Thank you,
John

I hadn't realised that this thread  had started up again as I've been busy out cycling on my Ebike while I can.

On this specific point, I posted this before the previous thread was lost...
It is of course entirely up to any business what they sell, and those decisions will include the commercial implications. I'm not naive enough to think that every shop only deals in the products they enthusiastically support. It's equally true that we as consumers are free to choose where to shop, I've always based my decisions on the retailers ability to supply what I want, not whatever else they're selling.
As a kid in the 70's the two local bike dealers were hardware shops, they probably didn't stock any high end bikes, but one of them had an excellent reputation as a wheelbuilder, popular with all types of cyclist. Although such hardware shops have largely disappeared, I don't think it was unusual and and everyone accepts that the likes of Wilco's sell bike parts.
In the days before cycling became primarily a leisure activity in the UK, there was a lot of crossover between powered and unpowered bikes, both in manufacture and retail.  Digging around in Derby history, I think it was only Mercian that were exclusively a cycling shop.  This 1960 advert from the local CTC magazine is typical

On a completely different OT subject...
I had a test ride n a 8.5kw electric motorbike last year, it was amazingly good fun.  Not the biggest, most powerful or fastest motorbike I've ever ridden and I wouldn't want to sit on it all day on a grand tour, but for getting about without pedaling I can't imagine anything more entertaining.

BUT, it is a motorcycle and NOT a bicycle...

It is yes, I was replying to you saying "If I ever want power I will return to a motorcycle." pointing out that electric ones are available, and a lot of fun.
Happy Easter

If I went back it would most certainly be an internal combustion engine.
I am thankful that my life has been lived during the internal combustion era.
I have owned over many years fortunately, a number of very fast cars! Very enjoyable and of couse the sounds of real motors!

Talking about a lot of fun. This looks like a lot of fun:

The video series is from the owner of Rohloff Australia and is about his use of a full suspension pedelec mountain bike converted to Rohloff. If I had the spare funds I'd love to have one.
