Title: Chain change?
Post by: Glassbackcyclist on October 01, 2017, 11:40:11 am
We have done about 5000k on our Thorn Nomads Mk2's with Rohloff and we are off on another trip, do you think it is a good idea to replace the chains and flip the front and rear sprockets?

Got any pictures?
Using a Chainglider?

If you flip rings will you change the chain as well?

Chains are relatively cheap, so if not using a Chainglider probably a good idea to flip the rear sprocket and fit a new chain before a major trip.

If the chainring doesn't look too worn I'd try leaving it as it is, ride it a bit before your trip to see if it works OK with a new chain and only flip it if it doesn't.

I just mentioned the 'glider since many folk think it can extend the life of a chain. I'm a fan but have no data to support that claim.
Plenty of links here on the pros n cons.
