Title: What shall I name her?
Post by: RST Scout on February 07, 2017, 06:40:30 pm
Nearly there!

Now I need to name her. So far it's down to either Georgina (Famous Five adventurer) or Scout (I'm reading "To Kill a Mockingbird at the moment and also the green reminds me of cub-scout uniforms).
Come on everyone put your thinking caps on; more options required, please.

Janet

Most of my bikes have first names of "The" followed by the brand or model.

I made a really sincere attempt to name "The Nomad" Seymour (a pun...See-More), but so far it hasn't fully adhered.

I really must practice using it more. Seymour-SeeMore!  ;D

I like Scout, Janet. A good, solid name that beings Adventuring to mind.

So excited and happy for you!

All the best,

Dan.

Showing my age here, but 'Dr Cameron' would go well with Janet  ;)

I would add that on my RST I frequently switched between Panaracer Pasela Folding 26 x 1.75 and Marathon Supremes 26 x 1,6 ... and I preferred the Paselas for ride speed and comfort.

Compass tyres [made by Panaracer] are an enhanced version of Paselas, but are much more expensive ... diminishing returns and all that.

Enjoy your new bike Janet.   ;D

Thanks guys for your kind sentiments.
I'm afraid that I am also of an age to remember Dr Finley's Casebook so I get the reference. I have to say I'm favoring 'Scout' at the moment. But I'm still open to alternatives.

Re tyres. I like Schwalbe Marathons (not the Plus). I've got them on two of my bikes and like them - no punctures! The new bike has Schwalbe Marathon Racers already on it. I'll give them a go and see how i like them.

The bikes stats are:-

Transmission : Thorn 104mm BCD 4 Arm Reversible Single Chainring 3/32 Inch - Black - 44T, Thorn 104/64 PCD Triple Crankset MK2 - Black - 160mm, KMC X1 Rohloff compatible 1/2 inch x 3/32 inch chain, Shimano UN55 73 mm Shell English Thread Sealed Cartridge Taper Bottom Bracket - 107 mm.

Here's the mountain bike. She's called 'Enterprise' as I'm a Trekkie. Handmade in 531 ATB d/b Reynolds tubing, 531ST forks, 24 inch wheels, Araya Rims 24x1.75 but I have 1.50" tyres on at the moment which I like.  SunTour Mountech front and rear. Old Maddison Ladies L1 saddle. She was all red at one time but because she got so many scratches on her, I used Black Hemerite on the forks and rear! ???

And the Brompton is called Charlie. Haven't done anything to him since I got him early 2003/4. He needs a new chain because he keeps throwing it but new bike comes first and I will be completely skint(broke) when pay the final balance in 2 weeks time. Can't wait.

Janet
I've also got an aluminium Marin City Kentfield (hybrid), a Raliegh Weekender Lady (my old tourer), a Carrera TDF Limited Edition Women’s 2014 Road Bike and a full suspension(cheap) mountain bike soon to be put up for sale. Don't know if I've got photies of all these but I'll look.

Yes, Anto, I love my bikes. I mentioned to my sister-in-law that the Thorns have very high resale values. She looked at me and said "but you never sell any bikes"
And there you have it! ;D

your right Janet hold onto them i usually have to sell to buy another :'(
ah i've been after this audax a long time now as i said before i have a class road bike but i needed a good bike that could basically do it all  the audax ticked all my boxes .when i sold the sherpa i also sold every bit of camping gear i had, after a disastrous ireland tour i swore i'd never tour again  but time is a great healer so i built up a quality camping kit once again all i needed was a bike to put it on  ;D

Beautiful bike, bikes, and names!  cool, you're reading Harper Lee...   that opens up names like Harper-Lee, Boo, Finch (close to Raven :) )
and yet "Raven" itself is awfully nice or Raven-girl..    Scout, also, cannot be outdone... What an amazing character out of whose eyes the story
is seen and told, and on your Raven, "Scout", or however you name her/him, you will also see will also perceive worlds within worlds and stories
to be told, or simply silently taken in... like a deer taking in the forest...    Thanks for your posting and your thread....   the "personhood" of
what we consider inanimate objects, whether a living tree, or a swirling labyrinth of molecules and atoms we call "steel", much less the form of
a bicycle, is something worth perceiving or enjoying in living in the awe of Creation...   so, i tried to scan the postings in this thread, but didn't encounter
whether you'd chosen a name yet?    Scout?

I always try to think of what I want the bike to do and be.  As if giving a name, leads the bike (and me) to the proper destiny.

I named my Thorn Nomad "Atlas" due to it's weight carrying ability. The bike can carry ridiculous weights. Unfortunately I forgot to give myself a similar nickname, and it shows on every hill.

My RST I called "Rocinante", the steed that took Don Quixote on his bold, heroic quests.  It seems to have worked well. Sanity of overrated. Reality always gets in the way of adventure, if one lets it.

So, choose wisely! Destiny may be listening.

If third time be a charm, my next bike, though it's a mouthful,  shall be "Endless-Free-Beer". What a journey it will be!
