Title: Chainglider movement
Post by: Matt2matt2002 on September 10, 2016, 05:26:59 pm
I have been using a Chainglider for 2+ years and have been very happy with it.

Recently I noticed that the lower rear section shifts slightly. This looks as if the chain will not run smoothly through.
It works its way 'loose' even in short smooth rides.

I haven't yet removed the assembly but do not notice any rubbing noises.

When I toured briefly with a Spaniard using a Chainglider, he had taped both rear sections tight.
Maybe the chain is very loose and causing this to happen?
It was certainly on the loose side when replaced 6= months ago.
Anyone any thoughts? I am tempted to tape mine up but will await comments here.

All the best

Matt

Which brand of chainring are you using?

Which brand of chainring are you using?

Thanks. I'll have to check my records for the chain ring details.

Since taking the picture and posting here, I removed the ' glider, removed the chain, shortened it by a link and replaced it and the ' glider. The B B was at its max rotation so now with a shortened chain is at a good position.
Although I've not run it for more than 100 miles, the glider is behaving itself.

I am guessing the slack chain was causing the movement.
There appeared minimal internal wear and the chain was in pretty good condition.

May I ask why you thought the type of chain ring could be significant?
